Studios Elena Lesvos – Beachfront Accommodation in Tarti, Greece

Tarti Beach: our base for discovering the villages of Gera.

Why spend a day in Gera?

Gera is more than a bay on the map. Its villages include Papados, Skopelos, Mesagros, Palaiokipos, Plakados and Perama, amid olive groves and traditional buildings. The regional tourism office places Gera in the south of Lesvos, about 25 km from Mytilene. A visit can give you a different perspective from the beach, especially if you enjoy village life, local history and an unhurried walk.

Papados and the Vranas Olive Press Museum

Papados is one of Gera's main villages and home to the historic Vranas Olive Press Museum. Built in 1887 by Nikolaos Vranas, grandfather of poet Odysseus Elytis, the former steam-powered olive press has been restored as a museum of local industry. Its exhibits offer a window onto olive-oil production and the history of the island. Check the museum's official website for opening arrangements and admission before making the trip.

Skopelos and Mesagros

Skopelos is known for its village square, plane trees and a marble fountain, according to the official Lesvos tourism guide. Mesagros has a different story, including remnants of a former mosque and local architectural landmarks. These are places to wander slowly rather than rush between attractions: enjoy the texture of the villages and be considerate around places of worship or historic sites.

Perama and Gera Bay

Perama is the area's coastal and former commercial center. The bay's sheltered landscape differs markedly from the open sea at Tarti. The wider Gera area has a deep history linked to trade, agriculture and industrial production, with historic structures still visible around the settlements. Before planning a waterfront stop or boat connection, verify that the service or business you want is operating that day.

A walk through the olive country

For visitors who like walking, Visit Lesvos describes marked geotourism routes through the olive groves of Gera. One route connects Papados, Paliokastro, Mesagros and Skopelos over about 6 km, while another circular route around Papados covers roughly 5 km. Check current trail conditions, difficulty, weather and route markings locally before starting; carry water and appropriate footwear.

Returning to the beach

A village day pairs well with time at Tarti Beach. Studios Elena has two sea-view rooms with private balconies and a mountain-view room whose balcony may occasionally be accessed by staff. Every room has two single beds, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a private bathroom and a small kitchenette; there is no breakfast service. Access is from the beach on foot and then by stairs to the first floor, with no vehicle road directly to the rooms.
